Here's the latest song I've been working on, inspired by the journey of a friend. I sang it at church as part of this morning's service. (I stole the verses from an old hymn that I've never known by George Washburn Lyon, which is now in the public domain, and there's an accompanying tune which will be shared at some point.) It's one thing to be able to sing or even write something like this, it's another to live it out. I've been reading Mike's story, praying for him and chatting with him over the last year from a distance. It's been a number of years since we were close, but his faith and journey has spoken volumes through his life.
Recently Mike was greeted with a new home and welcome by His "Father with sweet smiling face", with an embrace that said "Well done, faithful one". This one's for you buddy. Rest well. Yet I will Trust: Verse 1: There’s light in the valley of shadows No longer the darkness I fear For Jesus is reigning in glory My strength and my light ever near There’s hope for the sad and despondent Who suffer in silence alone Amidst their confusion and sorrow O’ercome by the weight of their gloom Pre-Chorus: Through the fire, and through the rain Though I walk the darkest vale Chorus: Yet I will trust in you Yes I will trust in you Verse 2: There’s joy for the wayward and lonely Afar from their own native place A home and a welcome are waiting A Father with sweet smiling face There’s comfort and help for the dying A rod and a staff for the way A guide who securely will lead them To realms of the glorious day Bridge: There is hope in the name of Jesus There is hope in the promise of new life You're my hope, my rock and my salvation There is hope in you, my God and King End Chorus: Yes I will trust in you Yes I will trust in you |
