Everyday Encounter...
|
I've set out to start with music rather than themes, but sometimes there are patterns in the things we hear and observe. Sometimes because we're predictable in what we listen to, and sometimes it's because we're more aware of what we need to be aware of.... The more you think about yellow cars, the more you see! This is another song about what's going on around us, and not being able to avoid it. We shouldn't try and avoid it all. This song is a little different though. Maybe it's only me hearing something different, but there appears to be a recognition of the magnitude of what is going on in the world, and a need to respond from wherever we are, but also the often overlooked notion that we can get overwhelmed by the news and get compassion fatigue.
Too much of the news can be as bad as being ignorant to what is going on in the world around us. Hyper-awareness can be dangerous and we can begin to lose track of what we are able to do and fail to notice the good and the things that are being changed by our response. I guess the trick is to try and find the balance between turning on and turning off the news, to maximise our capacity for compassion and action in an informed but not overwhelmed way.
