They say that ignorance is bliss.
Sometimes we'd rather close our eyes and have everything go away.
Perhaps if we sleep things will be better when we wake. Someone will have magically fixed the problem.
I guess this song just draws together the thoughts that I've already had with "Bridge over troubled water" and "Eyes of a child".
We can try and outrun things, build a bridge to get over them, sleep through them, but it's not possible. We need to face them, all the good and shit realities of what's around us, and make it count for something.
We need to treat it as reality and not as a dream.
In particular we need to address that dangerous cultural lie that "Boys will be Boys."
Boys will be dicks if we let them, but if we challenge that they have the capacity to be wonderful human beings. Then we won't have girls and women missing out on living life because they're wishing it was a dream and they could avoid the results of a world that have pardoned bad behaviour as "boys will be boys."
